Wayne Christiansen

Wayne Jonathan Christiansen 1948 ~ 2010 Wayne Jonathan Christiansen, 62, was killed in a tragic auto accident on July 12, 2010 while returning home from a triumphant performance at the Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival.Wayne was born in Salt Lake City on May 28th, 1948. He was adopted by Horace and Ada Christiansen, and moved with them to Denver. He graduated from Highland High School in 1966 and attended the University of Utah before spending the "Summer of Love" in San Francisco, where he played the Fillmore West and Winterland Ballrooms with his band Glass Mountain. Wayne spent most of his life playing music in the Salt Lake City area, but occasionally "went south" to Moab and Springdale. Wayne was a well-known and well-loved musician who played piano and sang with many bands of many styles throughout his career. A partial list of those bands would include the University of Utah Jazz Ensemble, Leaves of Grass, the Rubber Band, CowJazz, the Cathy Rich Band, the Tempo Timers, the JazzBros, the Saliva Sisters, the Back Alley Blues Band, Double Helix, and the Mark and Wayne show, with his long-time pal Mark Chaney. Wayne's quick wit, randy laugh and onstage hi-jinks will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David. He is survived by his brother Don and sister Joyce, former wives Shaunna Young and Holly Christiansen, and his son Carter Wayne Christiansen, who was the light of his life, and to whom he was always devoted. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive. Visitation will be on Friday, July 16th from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. and one hour prior to service.
