Arie Cornelus Van WyngaardenFeb 11, 1948 ~ Jan 30, 2012Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Arie Cornelus Van Wyngaarden, 63, passed away January 30, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Arie fought a valiant fight against prostate cancer with a courageous and optimistic spirit, always keeping a positive outlook on each and every day. He was born February 11, 1948 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands to Krijn van Wijngaarden and Jacoba Johanna Oosterwyk. After losing his father, he traveled from Holland to Utah with his mother at the age of 8 to begin a new life in America. He married Kay Terry on March 28, 1969. She preceded him in death on Jan 30, 2000. They had two daughters, Angela (Bryan) Witzel and Heidi Van Wyngaarden. On July 14, 2000 Arie married his high school sweetie, Kathy Nielson. They enjoyed being together and experiencing all that life had to offer. Arie loved traveling and seeing the world and they took the opportunity to explore the US, Canada and Holland.Arie graduated with an accounting degree from the University of Utah and immediately was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return from military duty, Arie began his career in construction as a laborer and worked his way through the ranks to retire as a Controller for Layton Construction.Arie loved his family. He enjoyed many weekends with them and their friends camping and boating in the mountains and lakes in Utah. He was the biggest tease and everyone knew he would always get the last laugh. Arie was a man of honor, who cared for those around him. His even tempered manner gave others a sense of security and peace when life seemed so tense. He is survived by wife, Kathy; daughters Angie and Heidi, and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday February 3rd at 11:00am at Little Cottonwood 5th Ward 6350 South Rodeo Lane, SLC UT 84121. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6pm to 8pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary and also preceding services from 10:00am to 10:45. Burial will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
