 DOUGLAS ROBERT HANSON
Aug. 30, 1948 ~ Dec. 30, 2013
Doug was born in Jacksonville, FL then moved to Salt Lake City, UT as a young boy.
He graduated from Highland High School, attended Westminster College, graduated from the University of Utah and earned his Masters of Science Degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. He was a Major in the United States Air Force, and served as a pilot from 1974 to 1994. After his military career he worked for the Department of Justice in the Flight Operations Department and later transferred to the Federal Aviation Administration as an aviation safety inspector.
He married Jean A Burton in 1974, had two sons Scott A Hanson and Jeffrey R Hanson. He later divorced and married Suzanna Ermeling in 2004.
Doug was a loving, kind, and generous man whose family was the focus and joy of his life.
He is survived by his wife Suzanna Windsong Hanson, sons Scott Hanson and Jeff Hanson, and step children Justin Lucast, and Brennan Loyola, grandsons Colson, Knowlten, and Bryce, as well as many other family members.
A memorial service will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary 3401 Highland Drive, on Sunday January 5, 2014 from 2-4pm.

I just learned tonight that Doug passed away in December of 2013, and I found his obituary. He was such a great guy in high school! Although I have not been in touch with him after high school, I was so impressed with his accomplishments both for our country and with his family. I know he was a close friend with Jonathan Isgreen, who, sadly, passed away just a year later, in 2014. I'd like to think they're having their own kind of reunion somewhere pretty awesome... RIP, dear friend...

Doug lived just two doors away for most of our growing-up years. He was a nice kid. We used to trade things with each other, like baseball cards, or puzzles, or records, etc. He was fond of Elvis, and I remember listening to You Ain't Nothin' But a Hound Dog in his bedroom. Their family ran the Mutual Beauty Supply company just east of 9th East on 9th South.

I knew Doug at Hillside and Highland.... I even went to his Funeral and got a 4 page color brochure full of photo's. Looks like he was a great pilot and grandpa.

Doug and I were roommates for a little more than a year, sharing quarters at Allen Park, located across the street from Westminster College. It was only today I learned of his passing. With the passing of time we lost touch with one another, yet it comes as no surprise he was just as successful in the way he lived his life as he was being a friend.
One of the notes posted mentioned his family's interest in the 'Mutual Beauty Supply'. A short story about the same:
Doug and I obtained one of the samples available through his Dad's shop -- it was called 'Two Weeks in the Sun', a hair-coloring substance designed to give even the darkest brunette the 'Beach-Boy' look, at the time very, very popular. While the hair I then had leaned toward blond, Doug's was brown. Well, we both took the plunge, tried 'Two Weeks in the Sun' and, well, the rest is history: my hair stayed essentially the same and Doug's turned green. I can still hear us both laughing as Doug went from a full head of hair to a crewcut akin to a putting green. Undoubtedly one of my life's fondest memories.
Let the record reveal that I'll forever remember Doug as a dear friend.

I became friends with this great normal guy Doug in Jr. High. I think he was Steve Neilson's and Jacque's neighbor. Is it true that all 3 of these kids have died so soon or am I in denial about our ages?
