Melanie Larsen

Melanie Larsen 3/12/48 ~ 2/21/2007 Melanie passed away on Feb. 21, due to complications from diabetes. She was born on March 12, 1948 in Salt Lake City, the daughter of George N. and Nelda D. Larsen. Melanie graduated from Highland High School in 1966 and received the La Sertoma Award for Youth Community Service in 1972. She enjoyed working for many years as a Recreational Therapist after receiving her Bachelors of Science Degrees in Speech and Hearing and in Recreation and Leisure from the University of Utah. Melanie had a special love for life, her many wonderful friends and "Bear," her lovable Pomeranian. She is survived by her mother, Nelda; siblings Nancy (Jim) Chavis, Annjanette (Robert) Carlson, Kenneth (Jill) Larsen; nieces, Crystal Montecinos, Marie Shelley, Erin Garrett, Kirsten Carlson Alder, Sundee Meyer; nephews, James Marland Chavis, Sterling Chavis and Eric Carlson. She is preceded in death by her father George N. Larsen. Funeral services for Melanie will be held on Tuesday, February 27 at noon at the Highland Park Stake Center, 2738 South Filmore Street. Friends may visit with the family on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, and again on Tuesday morning from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. A special thanks to the staff of the Wellington Assisted Living Center and the St. Mark's ICU. In memory of Melanie, donations can be made to the Diabetes Foundation or the charity of choice.

Wow, all through and after high school, Melanie kept on serving others and pushing through her own difficult health limitations to do so. What a trooper! What a good and caring person! Sandi

Rex Robison

I knew Mel from kindergarten to graduation and she was one of the sweetiest and most caring persons I have ever known.  Rest in peace and God's blessings.
