i will never forget Margaret. we went to Clayton jr high. the summer of 63 was just about as good as it could get. it was before going to highland high. Pat Bennett and myself invited Margaret over to my house. she thought we were going to have a slumber party and go swimming in my pool. She brought all her geer only to find out, it wasnt going to be a slumber party. Pat and I had some other plans lined up. Well to make this post shorter, we all went all and didnt get home until about 3am. We were greeted by my father. Margaret started crying and told my father, she didnt want to go, but had no choice. My father felt bad for her and told her she could go swimming and to go in and have the housekeeper cook her some breakfast. Pat and I didnt fair as well.
Margaret was a great friend. I remember before school started, Margaret made me a dress. I loved that dress and wore it until it just fell apart. I am sure for everyone who knew her, you all had special memories of her.
Margaret and I started hanging out in college at the U of U. We spent a lot of time at the Student Union Hall playing cards and later at Resevoir Park drinking cheap wine. Margaret's favorite author was Ayn Rand and she talked me into reading Atlas Shrugged. The longest book I ever read! We spent a month in Orange County CA and stayed in a cheap motel ... and the most memorable thing was putting paper cups on top of the many cockroaches running around our "home". We used to laugh about it ... Margaret would laugh about everything! She was such a great friend ... she lived with my family for a while when she was having problems at home. Margaret drove a very old run down car and we would split the gas money when we went out. We were both very poor! One night the car wouldn't start when we were out so we pushed the car into a neighborhood and started walking and never looked back. Somewhere I have a picture of me and Margaret sitting on the roof of her car. I'll post it if I can find it. I'll always miss Margaret ... such a funny, smart, passionate and loving friend.
Good friends are hard to come by and Margaret was that to me. We had so many wonderful adventures while at Highland and then kept in touch over the years as life took us in different directions. More recently, we met for lunch in Phoenix. She was volunteering as a Proctor at Phoenix Art Museum. It was so great to see her and catch up. A few short months later she passed away. Her smile...I will miss her smile. Rest In Peace, my dear friend!
