In Memory

Stephen Demars

Stephen Demars

I received information that our friend Steve Demars passed away last Sunday, August 12, 2018, in a medical facility here in Utah.  He had a graveside service Wednesday and was buried at Wasatch Lawn cemetery.  Sadly, Steve has suffered for years with a mental disorder and has not been able to function without living in this special facility.  He did graduate from college and had taught school before this terrible condition affected him.  If any of you Highland High friends know any more information about Steve, please comment in the comment section.

I knew Steve Demars rather well. He lived behind me on Alden St. I lived on 13th East.  We would get together once in a while and play board games. I used to babysit his younger siblings . He married Estle Sotor who lived on Stratford Ave. They later divorced and Steve had a really tough time with that. We lost touch and I saw him on the bus one day when I was coming home from work. I said, hi to him and asked him how he was doing and if he remembered me. He had a blank look on his face. I then said, we went to Highland together and lived a few houses away from each other. .Then he looked at me and said Highland was good. Then got off the bus. That was the last time I saw him. And have wondered about him off and on since. Now we know. Thanks for the good times Steve. Now your mind will be whole. God bless you and rest in peace my friend. I always loved our times together as friends.

Your neighbor and friend

Steve was, indeed, so pleasant and kind.  It saddens me to hear of his difficult years as an adult.  Now rid of mortal limitations and struggles, he is likely back to his old self, free to enjoy being the great guy we all knew once again.

Steve Demars and Steve Curtis were two guys everyone liked. I've thought about both Steves from time to time, now the last of this great pair have moved on but live in fondness in many memories.

I am saddened to learn of the passing of one of my best friends since Junior High, Stephen Demars.  He was the second of my good friends in high school named Steve who have passed away.  Since Nadine and I raised our family in California, it was regretable that we lost contact with so many of those friends we knew from our high school days.  There were so many of those events in high school where Stephen Demars and Steve Curtis and others would spent time enjoying the things that we had in common.  Our lost is reduced by the fact that his mind is no longer clouded and he can once again enjoy friends and family who were there to greet him.
