Kathy Gill Summers Kunz   1947 - 2025

Our sweet loving momma and grandma Kathy “Kate” Gill Kunz passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at the age of 77 in Sandy, Utah.

Born September 24, 1947, to Lorraine and Gordon Gill, the middle of five children, Kathy deeply loved her parents, brother, and sisters, and their families. Some of Kathy’s favorite memories growing up were playing catch in the yard with her brother Jeff and going to Nana’s house in California.

Kathy’s husband Richard Kunz preceded her in death a year and a half ago, her brother Jeff Gill last year, and her son Scott Alan Summers 10 years ago. She has three living siblings: her sisters: Leslie Osborn, Stephanie Carter, and Michelle Belcher. Kathy graduated from Highland High and went on to the University of Utah where she found lifelong sorority sister friends that for years got together once a month.

Kathy’s passion in life was all things Sports. She was a tomboy at heart. In school, she was always picked first to play on the boys’ teams. She loved basketball, softball, tennis, and golf. She coached for the Young Women in her Ward. She was even in the hall of fame for tennis at the Sports Mall.

Kathy worked for the University of Utah for many years and retired from the School of Business in 2006.She was well respected and developed a few special friendships along the way.

Kathy loved her children and grandchildren deeply. She and her first husband Richard Alan Summers had five children and seven grandchildren. She lost a baby boy, Richard, soon after his birth. Her oldest son, Scott Alan Summers, Scott has two children, Karli and Walker Summers. She is survived by her three children; Kristine Ann Summers, Michael James Summers; Michael has two children, Victoria and Lyla Summers, and Emily Jane Workman; Emily and her husband Jason have three children, Grady, Taylor, and William Workman.

The family would like to express their profound gratitude to her home health aide Archie for the exceptional care he provided in her final year.

Friends and family are welcome to gather on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 11:00AM to 12:30 PM where memories can be shared around 11:30 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens located at 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT 84092.
